The CEO's Corner

Dear Reader,

My name is André Eriksen and I am the founder and CEO of Asetek. I founded Asetek back in 1997 focusing on compressor cooling and overclocking. During the years we built very strong brand names and successful products such as VapoChill and WaterChill. A couple of years back we decided to leverage our experience from the channel market and started to focus on the OEM market. I have decided to create this blog and provide you with an open minded and honest opinion on the thermal market as being a part of the PC and server market.

We have seen a consolidation of the market during the last year, but unfortunately at the same token we have also seen a commodization of products/PCs, which is not necessarily to the benefit of either the PC vendor or the end user. Here at Asetek we believe that proper thermal management (and the obvious benefits associated with it) is often times overlooked or cut away due to overly focus on cost cutting (commodization).

This phenomenon, general trends in the market and benefits from thermal management is what I will
cover in my blog. From time to time I will also include guest writers and coverage from trade shows etc. I hope you will enjoy reading as much as I will enjoy writing, and please do not hesitate to provide any feedback you might have.

The miniaturization is over us - PC's are getting smaller than ever PDF Print E-mail

As many of you may know, I am originally from Denmark - the home of contemporary Danish design furniture and companies like Bang & Olufsen (B&O), whose futuristic designs for HIFI and home entertainment are second to none. Keeping these design trends in mind, within a short time, my guess is that the design of PC’s will continue to evolve into very cool looking small devices with good performance and low noise.

Low noise - A cost adder, old-school tangible end user value or even a good business opportunity? PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 10 June 2008

We all know that any noisy electronic device like a projector, gaming console or a PC is quite annoying. We also know that there are pretty simple solutions to the problems, so why is it that we have to accept it? Or in other words, is it fair that we have to accept noisy devices, when there are simple solutions to it?

Originally I had not really planned a Part II, of this post. However, after reading a couple of press reviews of our LCLC recently, I got inspired to follow up on the heat pipe VS liquid cooling thing again.

If you have not read Part I yet, you should do that here

What happened to Asetek...? Part II PDF Print E-mail

Thank you for reading Part I. It is now time for part 2, where I will go more in detail with the business as it looks today.

After getting the VC funding we started on doing a lot of parallel tasks such as expanding our management team and spreading it out in the US, EU and China. We started the development of the Asetek LCLC, which is different in basically all aspects from retail grade liquid cooling. The IP of this solution goes many years back, but we never really started the development until we got the VC funding.

This is a question that I have gotten numerous times during the last 3 years from our worldwide supporters, customer base among overclockers, hardware enthusiasts and gamers and not the least the press. In order to provide a better understanding of why Asetek has been somehow silent in the enthusiast community I will release two articles describing in more detail how Asetek started out, where we are today and where we are heading.
