High Efficiency Liquid Cooling for CPUs & GPUs

ServerLSL™ (Server Level Sealed Loop) replaces less efficient air coolers and enables data centers to utilize the highest performing CPUs/GPUs.   In cases where budget limitations are paramount or in a transitional data center (a mix of low density air cooled & high wattage liquid cooled racks), Asetek ServerLSL is ideal. ServerLSL replaces less efficient air coolers with liquid coolers and exhausts 100% of this hot air into the data center with the overall data center heat being handled by existing CRACs and chillers. In addition, ServerLSL requires no changes to the data center infrastructure.

Asetek ServerLSL is “Liquid Enhanced Air” cooling for server nodes. Because the low pressure pumps are contained within each ServerLSL node, individual liquid cooled servers can be installed in the same racks with air cooled servers. The is a key advantage over centralized pumping systems that require high pressures and whole racks (or multiple racks) of liquid cooled servers to be installed. ServerLSL provides significant power savings on the internal server fans, allowing the use of higher wattage processors in any given server design while reducing fan noise in the data center.

ServerLSL can serve as a transitional technology from air cooling to Asetek’s “free cooling” solution RackCDU D2C. Unlike Asetek RackCDU D2C, ServerLSL still exhausts 100% of its hot air into the data center with the overall data center heat being handled by existing CRACs and chillers. In this way, ServerLSL can serve as a proof point for IT and Facilities management who understand the benefits of liquid cooling but must deal with management fears of liquid cooling in the data center.

Calculating the Benefits

Data Center Power Savings Example:

  • If a 1U server draws 500W and its CPU cooling fans typically uses up to 20% of the wattage under load.
  • A fully populated rack draws 21kW.
  • CRAC power draw to support 21kW is 7kW per rack. (Cooling PUE = 1.34).

With Asetek ServerLSL:

  • 8% power is saved from reduced fan speed, meaning each server is now 460W under load. A fully populated rack is 19.3kW.
  • CRAC power draw to support 19.3kW is now 6.5kW.

Total Savings: 2.2kW per rack or $1,927 in net power savings per rack per year.
